Part-Time Baker at Jane's Matcha (Jersey City Heights)
We are seeking a passionate Part-Time Baker to lead our cafe's bakery operations. This role will begin with 1–2 shifts per week (a “training” period) and expand to 3–4 shifts per week starting in June. The ideal candidate will craft seasonal Asian-American inspired desserts, designed to pair well with tea. You will be responsible for maintaining an efficient baking operation, strong quality control, and thoughtful inventory management.
Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day bakery operations, ensuring consistent quality, portioning, and presentation across all baked goods
- Develop seasonal bakery menu items in collaboration with owner, focusing on Asian-inspired desserts (e.g., mochi brownies, matcha linzer cookies, etc.)
- Create and test new recipes, tasting notes, and production guidelines; implement scalable processes for a reliable bake-out and service
- Manage inventory: order, receive, rotate, and track bakery ingredients; monitor spoilage and par stock levels
- Maintain baking equipment and workspace cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in line with health regulations
- Train and support bakery staff (when applicable) and foster a collaborative, positive team environment
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years experience in a professional kitchen
- Strong knowledge of Asian-inspired desserts and techniques; experience with daifuku is a plus
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to develop menus and recipes, and translate them into scalable production plans
- Experience with inventory management, ordering, cost control, and waste reduction
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities; comfortable working with front-of-house and management to align on quality standards
- Flexibility to work early mornings and weekends as needed; reliable attendance and punctuality
